About Us

Lead Beyond Education (LBE) provides life-changing opportunities for young women and girls from Culturally and Racially Marginalised (CARM) and refugee backgrounds through education, human rights advocacy, leadership, and capacity development in Australia and refugee camps.

Our Vision

We provide leadership training and capacity-building programs to equip young women with the skills and confidence to lead their communities and break down systemic barriers.

Our Mission

To create opportunities and develop pathways to empower CARM young women.

History

Born and raised in Kakuma refugee camp for her first ten years, Anyier never received full educational or economic opportunities until she moved to Australia in 2003. Having experienced both extreme poverty and the abundance that Australia offers, Anyier believes that economic empowerment and free, high-quality education should be a right for everyone.

In 2017, Anyier returned to Kakuma where she learned that the lack of enrolment for girls in schools was due to issues such as child labour and early forced marriages in the camp. These factors impacted young women and girls by creating vulnerability and insecurity and forcing them to make survival decisions. That experience and her work in Australia led her to establish Lead Beyond Education – to empower and create capacity-building programs for vulnerable young women.

LBE works collaboratively with individuals and organisations to help women and girls achieve their full potential. We achieve this through various initiatives, primarily focused on three fundamental pillars:

Leadership

Seeks to break down education barriers and create pathways for stability and empowerment through its leadership and capacity-building programs.

Beauty (Miss Sahara)

Seeks to expand the broader Australian community’s notions of beauty in a multicultural Australian context whilst building pathways for young women of African heritage to be better represented in the mainstream beauty and modelling industries.

Economic literacy

Strengthening financial responsibility and financial literacy where young women can venture to enhance their self-reliance.

LBE exists to thrive for the inclusion of underrepresented women and girls in Australia and beyond. Our mandate is built upon three pillars:

  • Improve the lives and dynamics of communities by promoting equal education opportunities for young women
  • Create leadership and sustainable entrepreneurial prospects for ambitious young females within their communities.
  • Connect young women to resources and mentors to assist their growth.

Young women from underrepresented groups in Australia with a diverse African backgrounds and, by extension, support refugee women and girls in Refugee Camps.
